1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Although this question might not be asked directly, interviewers will definitely want to get to know you better. At this point, you can talk about your hobbies and then move on to your academic background. After briefly talking about your academic background, you can transition to your interest in the position or sector you are applying for and discuss how this interest has developed. This interest, along with your work experience, can help you explain why you are suitable for the position.

2. Can you tell us about your previous work experiences?

To give an effective answer to this question, it’s important to clearly explain your own work and emphasise the tasks and achievements you have personally accomplished, not the work of others around you. Another important point is to give direct and clear answers to the questions asked. Do not delve into unrelated topics or provide off-topic examples. This approach keeps the interview focused and leaves a professional impression.

3. Why do you want to work with us?

Use this question as an opportunity to show not only why you prefer this company, but also how well you know the company. Always research the company and the position you are applying for in advance. Be familiar with the company culture, mission, and values, and think about how they align with your own values. With this in mind, clearly express what you can contribute when you start. This can give you an advantage in the interview process. You can find more details about preparation in our article “5 Simple and Quick Preparations for a Successful Job Interview”.

4. Why did you leave/want to leave your last workplace?

Be clear and honest throughout the interview to give the best impression you can. Make sure to answer this question in a way that reflects your circumstances and stick to the facts without going into too much detail. You should not complain about or criticise your former workplace or colleagues, but should focus on your future plans.

5. What are your weaknesses?

You can encounter this question in various forms. For example, “Do you think there is an area where you need to improve yourself?” or “Can you share an experience where you were faced with challenges?”

The purpose of the question is not only to learn about your weak points but also to understand how honest you are and how open you are to improving yourself. It may be difficult to answer this question, but you can make a positive impression by expressing a weak point that demonstrates your self-awareness, while explaining how you have worked to improve this area.

Which questions have challenged you the most in your previous interview experiences? If you are going into an interview as an employer, what advice would you give to candidates? We look forward to your comments.
